Homebuyer Help Zone: Buying or Selling Your Home in Fall
We’re back with another edition of Homebuyer Help Zone and
this week we’re covering a topic people ask all the time, “When is the ideal
time of year to buy or sell a home?”
Well, dear friend, the answer is simple – the best time of
year to buy or sell your home is when you decide to do it! I have sold many of
my personal homes in the fall and I think it’s a perfect time of year to list
your home or to search for a new one. Here are a few reasons why I think of
fall as a wonderful time to sell your home for both buyers and sellers!
For Buyers:
- Fewer buyers are looking for homes at this time of year than in the spring and summer, and for you as a buyer, that may mean a great deal!
- If you are flexible with your timing, the fall is a great time to see repairs that may be needed.
- If you are planning to renovate your home, most people do so during the warmer months. The autumn is an excellent time to bargain with contractors for their services.
- For the financially savvy first time homebuyer, buying in the fall gives you an exceptional opportunity to ensure tax benefits related to homeownership.
For Sellers:
- This time of year, there are fewer listings available which can mean there is great traffic for your home.
- You may have more flexibility to negotiate moving dates with the holidays looming (or if you're motivated, you can negotiate a faster closing date with a serious buyer.
- This time of year, buyers tend to be more serious about finding a home before the end of the year.
- As a realtor, spring and summer tend to be our busiest seasons. While it’s always my goal to give a seller amazing service, as the seasons change, I have an incredible opportunity to market your home in creative ways.
