The 10 Commandments for First Time Home Buyers

Buying your first home is an exciting and nerve-wrecking experience. I want to help make your first home buying experience fun, easy, and smooth. Let's walk through my 10 Commandments for buying your first home.

1. Know your budget and stick to it!

2. Do your homework - Be aware of the hidden cost of home ownership i.e. - repairs, warranties, taxes, and HOA fees

3. Have reasonable expectations and be flexible with your first home. You might not get everything, but the important stuff should definitely be included.

4. Work on your credit. Credit is BIG. When looking to buy your first home don't make any big purchases. This will help keep your credit in tip top shape for your home purchase.

5.Narrow your search. Know where you want to live, or have an idea of the type of neighborhood you'd like to move into.

6.Consider renovations! Many first time buyers have issues with small renovations, however, being open to renovating allows you to cast a wider net when searching for your home.

7. Consider this an INVESTMENT! Realize this is a great investment and in the end will bring more money to you whenever you're ready to sell.

8. Know your non-negotiables. What is most important to you? Is the school district, bedrooms, square footage more important to you than other things? Make sure you know what is most important. Every homebuyer has a preference, and you should know yours.

9. Be willing to compromise with your mate! Just like relationships there's give and take, make sure you and your mate are willing to compromise with one another.

10. Enjoy the process! Home buying is a fun process. Enjoy looking for your home and the process it takes to get there.
