Faith's Favorite Things

Good day sunshine-y people!! It’s me, Faith, one of Patrice’s amazing daughters J I took over the reins this week as a guest blogger to share with you the things I am loving as we end spring! I hope you enjoy (and comment below so she’ll let me takeover more frequently!)

As I sit in front of my laptop pondering what the spring has been, I have to share something with you. We’ve built some trust in this last paragraph, so I like to think we’re friends. We’re friends right? RIGHT?! Okay, that came across more threatening than I thought, but I digress. I have terrible seasonal allergies. I tried to deny it for far too long, but they got me this year. So as I reflect, my first recommendation is Claritin J

Okay. Okay. Now on to my real list. Let’s call this Faith’s Favorite Things to pay homage to one of my favorite people, Oprah!

Pop Culture
 Autumn by Ali Smith
This is what I’m in the midst of reading right now. It’s beautifully written and was rated as one of the best books of 2016. It’s been written about as the first post-Brexit great novels, but since I’m still reading it, I figured I’d recommend it to you!

Keep It!
I listen to a lot of podcasts. Probably way too many to be honest. But Ira Madison, Kara Brown and Louis Virtel’s pop culture heavy podcast is one of my favorites. They put together amazing interviews, witty references a la Gilmore Girls, and discuss politics in ways that will keep you laughing.
Bonus content – if you like more progressive politics in your podcasts, check out Pod Save America or Lovett or Leave It from the same media company.

This is America by Childish Gambino
The music video for this song sparked think pieces on what Childish Gambino (real name, Donald Glover of Atlanta fame) was saying about race, gun violence, pop culture, and technology. The song takes the typical trap music model and spins it into a more conscious hip hop direction. Check out the video (not suitable for young eyes!) and then listen to the song a few times.

 Shaunie’s Home Court
I enjoy a good reality television show, but Shaunie’s Home Court is a wonderful family oriented reality show similar to Run’s House if you ever watched that. It’s funny, warm, and lighthearted, following Shaunie O’Neal, executive producer behind Basketball Wives, her five teenage/young adult children and their extended family.

Kids See Ghosts album
Originally, I had listed Kanye West's recent album ye listed here. But I'm allowed to reconsider lol....I woke up today and listened to the Kid Cudi/Kanye West collaborative album. And it. is. everything.

Shopping

I’m not a big shopper by nature (#minimalism J). But, once in a while, I need something new and enjoy some of these places!

Linen Shorts from Old Navy
Shorts are the bane of my existence. As a curvy girl who dresses fairly modestly, they always show too much, ride too high, etc. I found this pair of shorts in my quest to give them another shot and they are wonderful!
A quick update - apparently these shorts are so popular they're sold out! But here's another favorite pair I recently purchased

 Thrive Market
Remember how I said that I don’t like to shop….well I really don’t! But I enjoy good, healthy food options. Thrive takes the concept of a membership based big box store and delivers some of the same, healthier food and household items.

Mighty Leaf Organic African Nectar Tea
I take my tea seriously, just ask my co-workers about the song I made up for my afternoon tea time. Once you get that Thrive subscription we just talked about, add one of my favorite teas to your next order! I think I still owe my dad a box of this tea that I “bought” him and then drank before I could deliver it J

Atlanta
So, dear reader, we’ve reached our last section and since this is my mom’s blog focused on real estate and Atlanta, I want to share my favorite Atlanta spots and attractions with you. Let’s dive in J

Herban Fix Vegan Kitchen
I have been vegetarian for about a year now and tend to eat mostly vegan food. Herban Fix is an amazing Asian inspired vegan restaurant. It’s located in the heart of the city (and has free parking!) Whether you eat meat, fish or are vegetarian or vegan, I think you’ll enjoy it!

CycleBar
There’s nothing better than taking care of your body. After all, you only have one! Try out a spin class at my favorite studio that has locations in Dunwoody, Buckhead, and East Cobb.

Your Dekalb Farmers Market
My first visit to YDFM was with my then-boyfriend and his mom….AND it was the first time I ever met his mom. J Needless to say, it was anxiety ridden, but something about this place calmed me right down. I love walking in this market and picking up a fruit or vegetable I’ve never seen, Googling it, and figuring out how to make it. Seriously, this place is a definite stop for any chef and/or foodie new to Atlanta (or if you just haven’t been!)

Center for Civil & Human Rights
There’s several amazing museums in Atlanta, but I’d be remiss if I had you for a few minutes and didn’t recommend my absolute favorite, the Center for Civil & Human Rights. It’s right across from the World of Coke and the Georgia Aquarium, and is well worth the time to spend a few hours visiting.

Alright, thanks for letting me share with you the things I’m loving right now. Check them out and comment below if you watch, shop, visit or try any of the things I’ve listed here. Until we see each other again, eat your greens and brighten someone’s day!
