Teen Room Makeover #TeenApproved

Cozy stuffed animals used to smother the bed , cartoon figurines were found through out the room, celebrity posters covered the walls, but now, your kid is begging for a more "grown up" room. I know this moment all to well. It's when your little girl or boy, isn't a little girl or boy anymore, now they are... TEENAGERS!!!!! They thrive in their own space, they need to express themselves, and pretty much hate everything you suggest (Trust me it comes with the territory) And I know what you're thinking... "Patrice, I do not have the cash to make some pintrest like room for my 14 year old! I don't even have a Pintrest room" LOL. Well I'm here to help. There is a way to get your teen the room they love without breaking the bank. You can even get it all done in just one day! Check out some of my helpful tips to take your kids room from little girl to young adult.

1. Nix the baby stuff

I know you want to hold onto your child's sweet younger years, but it's time to toss that stuff into a box and get it into the attic. Children want a place that they feel is their own, and their room is their little slice of their own. So, pack up all the stuff that they aren't into anymore. Don't worry if they want to keep the baby blanket we'll find somewhere to place it.

2. Pick a paint

Painting might seem like a daunting tasks, so the best way to not make it a entire event is to choose an accent wall. Let your child pick the color that they want to make their room and then enjoy a few hours of priming and painting the wall. The best place to put an accent wall is where the bed will be, but of course you can change it for whatever you'd like. If you're not ready to paint the walls, or even one wall, consider doing a wall decal with a inspirational message, or a cute/funky design! This is also super cheap, and can be taken down easily! Perfect for rental properties or apartments!

3. Accessories

Accessories are inexpensive and easy to find to make your child's room less kiddy and more of a young man or young lady. I love shopping at places like TJ MAXX,  Tuesday Morning, Home Goods, and Marshalls for little trinkets to add to my home. When my children were young, I found it easy to transition their room by changing the accessories to make their room fit their personality. Also, ask your kids to go through their instagram feed and print out pictures of their friends and family to add to the room. You can even create a collage or photo gallery wall in their room. Not only does it cause for you to be labeled "the cool mom", you'll also get to truly know who your kids are hanging out with. #MomTip

4. Change the bed set

The first thing you see when entering a bedroom is the bed! That's why it's important to update the comforter to a more mature print. I like to simply update the comforters or get an inexpensive bedding set to give the room a little more umph!

5. Create a sitting area

It's so great for a kid to be able to relax and enjoy their room. I know most children's rooms aren't spacious enough to add a couch, however, bean bags and floor pillows are a great way to expand your kids room. This will give them space for chats with their friends, doing their homework, or working on special projects.

With these helpful tips I know your kid will love their new room! It will also allow for some quality time with your precious babies, because they do truly grow up to fast! Let me know in the comments if you have any tips on spicing up your children's rooms. I'd love to hear your feed back!

Thanks a ton for reading!
