Tips to getting your backyard summer ready!

A backyard space can be many things to different people. Sometimes it’s a soccer court, a basketball arena, a vegetable garden, or a place to simply sit down and enjoy an evening with your family. Whatever the case it’s a wonderful place to spend some quality time with the ones you love. That’s why I thought that this week we’d talk about the importance of a great outdoor space for your home. Venture with me now into fun ideas, DIYs, and helpful tips to make your backyard a magical kingdom for you to enjoy.

Furniture - Outdoor furniture can get pricey but is so necessary to get when creating a great outdoor space. I shopped around for a while before finding the perfect furniture for my back yard. Whether your style is midcentury modern or farmhouse there is something for you. I love finding a good deal so these wonderful pieces were found on wayfair and they are FABULOUS.

Music: The best decision we made for our new home was incorporating a sound system for our outdoor area. Seeing as how that can break the bank sometimes it’s important to get what works for you and your family. A great suggestion is investing in a portable speaker system like the one below. My daughter lives by this speaker and enjoys it frequently on her back patio. You can find a similar one at places like Wal-Mart, Target or even Homegoods!

Games: My husband still raves about his time spent during his childhood playing games like croquet and badminton. If you have the space you can incorporate these games into your backyard area. Simply head to your nearest athletic store and grab what your family likes. For hot summer days you can add a frisbee or darts for a fun dose of competition. Might I suggest parents vs. kids?

Flowers: I LOVE seeing a beautifully manicured lawn with a bit of color. Adding flowers or shrubs can be exactly what your backyard could need. So take a little time and stop by Home Depot to pick out some wonderful plants. This can also be a fun activity to get your little ones engaged with the earth and catch some rays all at once.

Fire pits: The winter time doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. Fire pits are a wonderful accessory to add to make your background living a place for all year round. We are currently on the hunt for one for my backyard!

Vegetable gardens: Organic living is the way to go, and if you’re into gardening I’m sure the thought of a vegetable garden has crossed your mind. Add a little spice to your backyard by planting vegetables in your backyard. Not only will it bring a wonderful look, but you also get a freshly grown vegetable to add to dinner.

Lights: Lighting is always important when discussing a backyard area. I personally love the way candles in mason jars or strung lighting looks on a warm summer night. Shop around for the best deal and lavish your garden with beautiful light. Also invest in some outdoor candles that specialize in keeping the bugs away!

And that just about does it! Hopefully now you have gotten some juices flowing and will go and make your backyards just as gorgeous as the inside of the house. Please share in the comments below any fun ideas or DIY’s you have done at your home. I’d love to hear them!

Thanks so much!
